Principal Objective

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Depot Operations Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient and commercially effective operation of the Rathcoole depot, with a strong focus on:

  • Yard & warehouse operations
  • Stock control & availability
  • Transport & delivery performance
  • Health & Safety compliance
  • Operational cost control
  • Customer service execution

The successful candidate will lead from the front, ensuring the depot operates to best-in-class operational standards while supporting sales growth and delivering exceptional service to trade customers.

 

Key Operational Responsibilities

Yard & Warehouse Operations

  • Oversee daily yard, warehouse and goods-in/goods-out operations
  • Ensure efficient loading/unloading processes and timely dispatch of deliveries
  • Drive operational efficiency across picking, packing and order accuracy
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, layout, and stock organisation
  • Ensure optimal use of yard space and safe traffic management

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Lead site Health & Safety culture in line with Group standards
  • Ensure full compliance with H&S legislation, risk assessments, and safe systems of work
  • Conduct regular safety audits and toolbox talks
  • Manage incident reporting and corrective action plans
  • Ensure all lifting equipment, plant, and vehicles are maintained and compliant

Stock Management & Control

  • Ensure stock accuracy through cycle counts and regular stock takes
  • Minimise stock loss, damage, and obsolete materials
  • Manage stock holding levels to support service while controlling working capital
  • Work closely with purchasing and supply chain teams to maintain availability

Transport & Logistics

  • Ensure on-time, in-full delivery performance
  • Manage fleet maintenance and compliance
  • Drive efficiencies in fuel usage and vehicle utilisation

People Leadership

  • Lead, motivate and develop yard and warehouse teams
  • Set clear performance standards and operational KPIs
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and coaching
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and rota management

Commercial & Financial Control

  • Manage depot operating costs, including labour, transport and stock loss
  • Monitor and improve gross margin through stock discipline and operational efficiency
  • Support the sales function through dependable and flexible service delivery
  • Contribute to branch budgeting and forecasting

Customer Service Execution

  • Ensure customers experience efficient collections and professional service
  • Resolve operational issues impacting customers quickly and effectively
  • Maintain strong working relationships with key site customers

 

Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven experience managing yard, warehouse or depot operations
  • Strong operational leadership background within builders’ merchants, construction supply, logistics, or distribution
  • Solid understanding of Health & Safety in a warehouse/yard environment
  • Experience managing transport and delivery performance
  • Strong stock control and inventory management experience
  • Commercial awareness with ability to manage costs
  • Competent in MS Office systems

Contract Type

Permanent Full-time 39-hour contract
Monday to Friday (Saturday roster participation may be required)
